The world of high-fidelity music and luxury interior design share a common language: the pursuit of perfection. In this context, Iván Melón Lewis emerges not only as an undisputed global master of the piano, but also as a fundamental pillar in the very origins of our brand.
Therefore, exploring the impeccable career of this magnificent artist is to delve into the very essence of Kaunus. Moreover, his talent was the first to capture our dreams. In this article, we invite you to discover the achievements of this musical genius and the fascinating story of his connection to our first prototype.
Who is Iván Melón Lewis? A Piano Master
Iván Melón Lewis is widely recognized as one of the most influential pianists of his generation. In fact, his virtuosity has led to multiple nominations for the prestigious Latin Grammy Awards, solidifying his place among the elite of international music.
Coming from a family with a deep musical tradition, his main role model was his father, Ricardo González Duquesne, who directed the Pinar del Río Modern Music Orchestra. Consequently, from his earliest years, Iván absorbed a rich sound that he would later transform into his own signature style.
However, his restless spirit led him to found The Cuban Swing Express, a group of ten talented musicians based in Europe. This orchestra debuted in Paris in 2014 and is known for its blend of traditional and bold sound. In other words, they achieve a fresh mix where compositions by Benny Moré and Ernesto Lecuona coexist harmoniously with works by Herbie Hancock or The Rolling Stones.

The Historic Encounter Between Master Craftsmanship and Kaunus
To understand the profound connection between Iván Melón Lewis and our Design for Soul vision, we must go back to the very beginning of Kaunus. At that time, our founder, Zayda Jiménez, was realizing her dream of creating piano benches that were true works of art.
It was at this crucial moment that Daniel Abad Casanova, Director of the Valencian Community Chamber Orchestra, learned of the nascent Kaunus project. Recognizing the level of detail and passion behind the project, she proposed a revolutionary idea: that Maestro Iván Melón Lewis play his next concert seated on one of our creations.
For this reason, this event marked an unprecedented milestone. Iván officially became the first international artist to trust in Zayda’s vision. He didn’t just try a seat; he experienced the first extension of his piano’s soul.
The “Lewis” Bench: A Legendary Prototype
In honor of this invaluable trust, the first bench ever created by the brand was named “Lewis.” However, this piece holds a special romantic significance: it was never produced for the public.
Below, we detail what makes this milestone so special to us:
- Absolute exclusivity: Only the exact prototype on which the artist performed his concert existed.
- Pure inspiration: It served as the creative spark that would later give life to iconic collections like Sublime Legends.
- Artistic synergy: It demonstrated that an elite pianist needs a piece of furniture worthy of their talent.
Consequently, the “Lewis” model remains an internal legend, a symbol of our origins, and a reminder that true luxury lies in the unique.

Shared Values: When Music Inspires Design
The career of Iván Melón Lewis and the philosophy of Kaunus share striking parallels. Both worlds refuse to settle for the ordinary.
While the pianist fuses the heritage of traditional Cuban music with the boldness of contemporary jazz and pop, Kaunus intertwines the legacy of classic furniture design with modern geometric lines and cutting-edge materials. In both cases, the result is a sensory experience that uplifts the spirit.
Just as The Cuban Swing Express adds contemporary sonic elements to classic melodies, at Kaunus we use fine wood finishes, such as walnut, combined with premium leathers and polished metals to create benches that command attention in any architectural space.
The Exclusivity of Feeling the Music
Ultimately, the legacy of that first concert where Iván Melón Lewis worked his magic on our prototype lives on in every piece we manufacture today. We know that architects, interior designers, and piano lovers aren’t just looking for a piece of furniture; they’re looking for a story, a work of art, and a statement.
While the “Lewis” bench belongs to history, the level of craftsmanship that inspired it is available to you today.
