What seemed like a happy ending was only the first act. After almost a year of accompanying the artist, tragedy struck. The precious bench suffered a terrible fate. In July, during an air transfer, the piece was completely destroyed. Unfortunately, this happened at a New York airport customs checkpoint.
Faced with this devastating news, the Kaunus artisan spirit did not hesitate. Instantly, Zayda made an unbreakable promise to Rufus Wainwright. She vowed to build a brand-new, identical masterpiece for him.
Fulfilling this word required time, absolute dedication, and extreme packaging care. Fortunately, last week we finally confirmed the mission’s success. The new bench successfully crossed the ocean intact. Today, it rests in perfect condition inside the artist’s home in Montauk. Once again, it is ready to inspire his next compositions.
